A project to completely renovate a house in La Romieu.

The property covered 170 m². The owners, who had renovated their house 25 years ago, felt it was no longer up to date and, above all, wanted a practical, modern, functional and spacious kitchen.

The entrance hall was also in need of a refresh. Here, we used a cost-effective trick to preserve the rustic charm of the old beams without having to sand them down and then apply a wood stain (two very expensive processes): We asked the painter simply to apply two coats of matt white paint to the beams and then to sand them down sparingly to reveal the texture and irregularities of the old wood.

Another room that had been used as a storage room has been given a new lease of life as Mrs C’s home office; she now works from home and had always dreamt of having her very own space with a distinctly English style.

We opted for a deep green – ‘Turner Green’ – and touches of black on the bespoke, moulded furniture.

On the ground floor (of this house, which was renovated in 2024 and which we’re discussing here: Project C | DL architecture), we’ve also completely redesigned this child’s bedroom so that we can comfortably host friends.

We often receive messages these days in which people tell us how much they enjoy cooking in this new space.

The property is also used for holiday lets in the summer and receives plenty of compliments.
